Recommended Activities for the Disability Vote Alliance Presented by the Steering Team, May 16, 2007

Item One: Voter Action Goals (Registration and Turnout Goals)

     • General Principle: Disability Vote Alliance Member organizations should do Voter Action work, which includes voter registration and turnout.
     • Each organization will be asked to adopt at least one of the following goals:
o Voter Registration Goal – Member commits to developing a goal for how many voters it will register (and educate about the process and their voting rights) before the 2008 Primary.
o Voter Turnout Goal – Member commits to developing a goal for how many voters it will turn out for the 2008 Primary.
o National Voter Registration Act (Motor Voter) Compliance Goal – Member commits to developing a goal for how many NVRA agencies it will get to start doing voter registration. Many agencies that receive federal funding are required to do voter registration by the NVRA but are not currently doing it.
     • Organizations will have until mid-July to decide whether they will commit to setting one (or more) of these goals.
     • Each organization will announce its goal to the Disability Vote Alliance by October 12, 2007, and report on its success after the Primary.

Item Two: Responsibilities and Privileges of Membership in the Disability Vote Alliance

     • A committee will form to develop membership responsibilities and privileges for all Disability Vote Alliance members.
     • The committee will be composed of three to five members.
     • The committee will present its recommendations for Responsibilities and Privileges back to the full group of Disability Vote Alliance members by the end of July.
     • The DVA will distribute the proposal via e-mail, discuss the recommendations and vote to adopt it on conference call(s) by majority vote.

Item Three: Technology Committee

     • A three-to-five person Technology Committee will form to address the technology needs of the Disability Vote Alliance.
     • The Technology Committee will assess whether the Disability Vote Alliance needs a website, and what should be included in the website.
     • The Technology Committee will present any final recommendations back to the full group of Disability Vote Alliance members for review and vote.
